2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee vs 2021 Ford Explorer

Serving Dickson, TN

If there's an automaker on the market associated with rugged SUVs, Jeep is the first name that comes to mind. The 2021 Grand Cherokee is no exception, with its classic Jeep appearance and strong power credentials. While the Jeep Grand Cherokee surpasses most other vehicles in its class for its sheer power output, including its rival, the 2021 Ford Explorer, that's not all that the Grand Cherokee offers. Instead, it shows a well-rounded vehicle with a plush cabin, many standard tech and safety features, and an ingenious exterior design that fits right in on the trails and driving downtown. When you compare the two, the Jeep has more off-road amenities than the Ford Explorer and a more distinctive outer shell, along with a higher-end cabin on all trims.

Performance

Performance is a strong suit of the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The Grand Cherokee has an impressive lineup of four engines to choose from that vary based on the trim level you select. To start with, you can get a base engine with no shortage of power and capabilities with ratings of 295 HP for its peak power output and up to 260 LB-FT of torque. The mid-range engines deliver 360 HP and 470 HP, respectively, while a top supercharged V8 engine at the top of the line produces more than 700 HP. The Jeep tows 7,200 pounds at most. The Ford Explorer, in contrast, offers just 300 HP at the base level and up to 400 HP max. The Ford's towing power is 5,000 pounds.

Interior

The Jeep Grand Cherokee has a tech-savvy, safe, and luxurious interior. The Jeep starts with a keyless entry, which is not added to the Ford until the second trim level. At the second trim level of the Jeep, you'll get an 8.4-inch display screen, compared to just an eight-inch display with the Ford Explorer. Higher-end seating material is also included on the Jeep but not the Ford.

Style & Appearance

A rugged appearance that's also functional is a highlight of the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The Jeep gets a power liftgate to start and a range of wheel sizes and designs. The Grand Cherokee also has the option for rugged all-terrain tires on some trim levels. The Ford Explorer doesn't have the same wide selection of wheels, and it lacks some of the functional off-road amenities found on the Jeep's exterior. More custom design options are available with the Jeep.
